NSF Mission : To advance the advance of science; to propel the national wellbeing, flourishing, and welfare; to secure the national protection (NSF Act of 1950). NSF Vision : Advancing disclosure, development and instruction past the outskirts of current learning, and enabling future eras in science and building. NSF Strategic Goals 2006 – 2011 : Discovery: Foster research that will propel the outskirts of learning, underscoring regions of most prominent open door and potential advantage and building up the country as a worldwide pioneer in major and transformational science and designing. Learning: Cultivate a world-class, comprehensively comprehensive science and building workforce, and grow the logical proficiency of all residents. Look into Infrastructure: Build the country's examination ability through basic interests in cutting edge instrumentation, offices, cyberinfrastructure and exploratory devices. Stewardship: Support brilliance in science and designing exploration and training through a skilled and responsive association.

NSF 09-058: Dear Colleague Letter Congress gave FY 2009 financing to build up a NSF Climate Change Education (CCE) program inside the Education and Human Resources (EHR) Directorate. Committed CCE subsidizing permits NSF to establish the frameworks of a more key environmental change instruction portfolio & attempt a Congressionally commanded meeting with the National Academies. Vital Priorities: Scale-up and scattering of successful instructive assets Assessment of understudy learning of complex atmosphere issues as it converts without hesitation Address neighborhood and national STEM training arrangements for showing CCE Professional advancement in environmental change education for strategy producers at all levels Emphasis on: Synergistic exercises among expansive scale investigate ventures Building on current comprehension of how individuals learn

Climate Change Education Partnership (CCEP) Program In FY 2010, NSF CCE financing shared among the Directorates of Education and Human Resources (EHR), Geosciences (GEO), Biological Sciences (BIO), and the Office of Polar Programs (OPP). The CCEP Program tries to set up a planned national system of territorially or specifically based associations dedicated to expanding the selection of powerful, amazing instructive projects and assets identified with the investigation of environmental change and its effects. The key desire is that Partnership exercises will be grounded in practically identical levels of ability in atmosphere science and comprehension of learning, and will go past typical strategies for spread or effort to give transformative usage on a huge scale . CCEP will be overseen in two stages: Phase I (2010 – 2012): NSF 10-542 Program Solicitation Phase II (2012 and past): Solicitation to be issued

Slide 8

CCEP Partnership Focus Partnerships can be Regional or Thematic, where the binding together concentration is characterized by basic environmental change impacts. Territorial Partnerships will concentrate on geographic locales that are encountering comparable environmental change impacts (e.g., Southwest USA; Arctic area). Topical Partnerships will concentrate on an arrangement of normal atmosphere framework qualities (e.g. biodiversity inside particular biomes; ocean level change; changes in worldwide precipitation and dry season designs). It is workable for a Partnership to be both Regional and Thematic.

Slide 9

CCEP Partnership Expertise The program is intended to deliver crucial necessities identified with distinguishing, creating, actualizing, and dispersing powerful training systems that serve the education and workforce objectives of the CCE program. Association exercises must reflect current logical comprehension about atmosphere frameworks and be educated by the learning sciences. Keeping that in mind, a Partnership must have no less than three center components , each spoke to by no less than one proper institutional accomplice. The components are: skill in atmosphere science; ability in the learning sciences; and, training experts straightforwardly occupied with execution or STEM instruction approach improvement. Consideration of disciplinary STEM instruction specialists is likewise energized. Associations are likewise prone to profit by the cooperation of specialists from the social, behavioral, and monetary sciences, and also those with aptitude in correspondences or open approach.

Key Requirements for CCEP Regional or topical venture center connected by environmental change impacts. Joint effort between atmosphere researchers, specialists in the learning sciences, and formal or casual instruction experts. Concentrate on creating imaginative and transformative methodologies for enhancing accessibility & effect of environmental change training endeavors. Systems to consolidate national, state, and nearby STEM training benchmarks & appraisal necessities, if a K-12 extend. Plainly expressed objectives & foreseen results of how the venture will enhance the nature of environmental change instruction hone, increment reception of powerful practices, and set up another atmosphere workforce. Recognizable proof of a Lead Partner with the limit & vision to create, oversee, and lead the group. ID of an outer Partnership evaluator with showed capabilities to build up a complete assessment arrange. Exhibited capability of the Partnership to facilitate endeavors later on with different Partnerships.

NSF 10-542: CCEP Phase I Proposals are just being looked for CCEP Phase I Partnerships (CCEP-I) in FY 2010, with an open door for supplemental financing in FY 2011. CCEP-I Proposals can ask for up to $1 million aggregate more than two years. Most honors are required to be in the $750,000 territory. Letters of Intent (LOI) are required: LOI accommodation due date is April 23, 2010 Submit LOI's through FastLane These are non-authoritative and for analyst arranging purposes just; NSF won't give input on the benefits of individual proposition Proposers are required to transfer their LOI affirmation letter in the full proposition Full recommendations due May 24, 2010 – submit through FastLane Supplemental financing demands due March 15, 2011

Slide 12

CCEP-I Proposals: Important Information Available subsidizing: $10 million every year (FY 10 & FY 11), pending apportionments Anticipate making 10-15 Phase I grants in FY 10 No Collaborative Proposals permitted Partnerships must recognize one Lead Institution, with all other working together foundations bolstered through sub-grants An organization can submit just a single proposition as Lead yet can be a sub-awardee on another proposition An individual can be PI on just a single proposition however can take part as a sub-awardee on another proposition Travel assets to go to yearly PI gatherings must be incorporated into the spending demand

Slide 13

Additional CCEP-I Requirements Each Partnership will be required to have an outer Advisory Board made out of delegates of its center groups. The participation of this Advisory Board ought to be recognized before the finish of the initial six months of the Phase I Partnership . Every Partnership will be required to have an outside Partnership evaluator for the Phase I exercises. The evaluator must be recognized in the Phase I proposition.
